Husky Tour with Northern Lights Village
I just love a husky tour! We were organizing a trip of 40+ adults to Lapland for our wedding and we wanted to give them an unforgettable Lapland experience. In our opinion your Lapland experience isn't complete without a husky tour.
There are a lot of operators offering husky tours in the area round Saariselkä but we made the decision to book with Northern Lights Village Saariselkä. Given the limited amount of time we had we opted for the 5 kilometer husky ride but they also offer longer tours if desired.

Planning the tour
We had a big group and detailed time schedules, given the fact it was our wedding weekend, so we reached out months in advance to Northern Lights village. A timeframe of 10 months before we would actually do the tour didn't bother them and the customer service was exceptional. They were incredibly accommodation, thoughtful and flexible with their schedule. They organized a private early morning tour blocking their agenda for other bookings so we had a full private experience.
We had a specific vision in mind how we wanted to show this experience to all our guests and they helped us with suggestions to make the tour comfortable for everyone. Since the group was quite big they suggested splitting into smaller groups so everyone could have the feeling of an intimate tour. The groups changed between riding the husky sled, cuddling with the husky puppies and relaxing in a Kota with warm berry juice.
We had pick-up arranged via them even though people stayed in multiple cabins, this also was not a problem for them and everybody got their shuttle to the activity right on time.
The Husky Tour
As said our tour was early in the morning before the start of a big day. The night before was spend in the karaoke bar but our guide made everyone feel welcome and brought positive energy and excitement to the group. After changing to the proper gear everybody was ready to go!
Walking outside we could already hear the energy of the dogs. The greeted us loudly and put a smile on everyone's face. After the right instructions from the guide the first group started picking their sleds and were ready for take off. A 5 kilometer ride takes approximately 30 minutes and you will stop halfway. There is one person riding the sled and the other is sitting in it looking at the happiness of the huskies doing their work and the nature around you. I had done multiple husky tours before but was super surprised by the speed. Maybe because this ride is shorter than others the dogs are allowed to run a bit faster or the dogs were just super happy early in the morning.
One tip: nature calls! Huskies will relieve themselves while running, especially at the start of the tour. It might look funny and smell a bit, but it’s completely normal.
After the husky ride itself you are allowed near the puppies. Unlike some other provides where you only look at them, we were allowed inside to interact and play with the little ones. Imagine eight little puppies with beautiful blue eyes running around you - that is what heaven feels like.
Conclusion
Our experience with Northern Lights Village was nothing but amazing. They even allowed our cameraman on a snowmobile near the husky tracks to make some amazing footage. This gave us some amazing memories captured on camera. All our family and friends still smile while talking about this tour. The guides from Northern Lights Village are extremely thoughtful and happy. They understand group dynamics easily and make you feel super welcome.
