Ranua Wildlife Park

Ranua Wildlife Park

Not your average Lapland day but in the mood for something else? What about a Zoo in Winter Wonderland? Ranua Wildlife Park is a great option for those wishing to get away from the city and experience more of the local natural environment. This park provides a unique opportunity to discover more about the amazing inhabitants of the Arctic. Located approximately an hour drive from Rovaniemi it's easy to combine the two.
The wildlife park was established in 1983 and nowadays about 50 different species can be found at Ranua Wildlife Park. Since many of the animals were born in or close to the park, they are used to seeing people.
The park offers something magical in the winter, when the snow-covered surroundings, early sunset, and distinctive Arctic noises complement your trip. Admiring Arctic species in an environment that closely mimics their natural habitat is a wonderful chance.

Animals in the Park

Ranua Wildlife Park is home to more than 50 species, primarily from northern and Arctic regions. Some of the highlights include:
Polar Bear 🐻‍❄️ – Ranua is famous for its polar bears, and it is the only place in Finland where you can see these iconic animals.
Wolves 🐺 – The park has a wolf pack that visitors can observe up close.
Lynxes 🐱 – These elusive predators are a favorite among visitors.
Reindeer & Moose 🦌 – Essential to Lapland’s wildlife, these animals give a glimpse into the Lappish wilderness.
Birds 🦉 – The park is home to various bird species, including owls, eagles, and ravens.
Other Arctic Animals 🦊 – Frequent residents include Arctic foxes, musk oxen, and wolverines.

Each visit offers a new experience, as the park and its inhabitants change with the seasons, making it a must-see destination for wildlife lovers!

Accommodation

You may extend your trip by spending the night in the region in addition to visiting Ranua Wildlife Park during the day. To accommodate different preferences and travel parties, a range of lodging options are offered:

  • Glass Igloo: These two-person igloos are ideal for luxury travelers. From the comfort of your bed, take in a memorable night under the stars and, with a little luck, see the Northern Lights.
  • Family-friendly vacation villas with two bedrooms and lots of space for a relaxing stay.
  • Adventurers who enjoy being near nature will adore Camping Wildlife Park ⛺.
Although it's only open from June to August, Camping Ranuanjärvi is a fantastic choice for tent campers.

With seasonal opening hours, Ranua Zoo is open every day. The park is open to tourists from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the winter. With convenient on-site parking, driving to the park is the most convenient option. A bus from Rovaniemi bus station, however, provides a direct route to the park for visitors without a car. It is advised to buy tickets online in advance to receive a discount and save money. On the day of your visit, tickets can also be purchased at the door. Children under four enter free of charge, and family tickets (for two adults and two children, ages 4-14) are available.
